B&B near Limoges in the Limousin. La Musardiere Bed & Breakfast. Set on a hill overlooking the Vienne River, a quiet, comfortable, tastefully converted farm building, nestles in a large park boasting a brook with waterfall and many fine shrubs and trees.
Perched on a hill, with the beautiful Vienne River flowing at ist foot, farmland surrounding it, La Musardiere, a tastefully converted, comfortable farm building offers 5 smartly decorated bedrooms with single or double beds, including a family room,(en suite facilities available). Cots are available for todlers or babies. Breakfast with home made jam is served on a terrace overlooking the park an the river. On reservation, you can enjoy a good French home cooked diner. A barbecue is available on the terrace and you can pinic in the park. Occasionally, meals will be served in the big, beam framed, roof high lounge with a huge granite fireplace. Overlooking it, is a wide mezzanine with your own private comfortable lounge at one end, and a children corner - with plenty of toys - at the other end. There you can relax, make yourself a drink, play with one of the games or study the comprehensive range of brochures on activities and attractions in the area. Your host will be happy to help with advice and translate if necessary.

Enjoy strolling in the park, discovering a wide range of shrubs and trees. Relax on the cool, shaded, grassy terrace by the waterfall, or sunbathe on the paved terrace. There are swings for the children and table tennis for the more energetic.

You are within walking distance from a small village with shops and doctor and more facilities are available in less than 10 mns. drive.

In the middle of the beautiful, picturesque Valley of the Vienne River, surrounded by farmland, copses and woods, La Musardiere is supremely well situated: you can go to Limoges town center within 30 mins. and the roads and motorways to the Atlantic coast, Paris or the South are near and of easy access.

This is a green hilly wooded area with meadows full of the world famous Limousine cattle, sheep and goats, and dotted with ponds and lakes.

Limoges is renown for its fine porcelain and there are plenty of factory shops to visit. Ever since the Middle Ages, Limoges was also famous for its enamels, and you can see many examples in a museum near the Cathedral, but various galleries and shops will show you that the tradition is alive still and will tempt you with fashionable modern creations.

St Junien, the nearest market town, boasts a remarkable church with frescoes and a rare collection of ancient polychrome statues, but is also a center for Haute Couture leather.

You may want to visit the martyr town of Oradour and its Memory Center, only 20 mns. away.

Further East, is the charming town of Aubusson, world famous for centuries for its magnificent tapestries, which can be admired in the museum, shops and craft centers.

The varied vernacular building styles of the Limousin region can be admired in countless breathtakingly beautiful villages all around.

The turbulent past has left many castles, fortified towns and churches; just follow Richard the Lion's Heart's trail for some picturesque and romantic castles. Romanesque churches, many of them with frescoes, are to be found in every village and town, and a remarkable Gallo-Roman bath complex is only 30 mns. away. Nearer still is the martyr town of Oradour and its Memory Centre.

The marvellous porcelain and enamels from Limoges are known the world over as well as Aubusson for its tapestries, and there is plenty to admire and buy for that special souvenir.

If you are energetic, this is rambling, cycling, horse riding and canoe kayac country. You can swim and fish in the many ponds, lakes and river, or play golf and tennis.

Market with delicious local food will tempt you and your host will advise you about the many excellent restaurants around.
